Axis unveils unified security range across cameras, readers
Axis Communications has introduced a new range of unified security products spanning video surveillance, access control and thermal monitoring.
The additions include a private cellular back box for IP cameras, a global-shutter camera, an edge-based licence plate recognition application, new thermal devices, panoramic cameras, and access control readers. The products are intended to provide customers with more options for deployment and management as physical security systems become more closely integrated with IT networks.
Cellular Link
Among the new products is the AXIS TP3604-E Private Cellular Back Box, which enables compatible IP cameras to connect directly to an enterprise private cellular network rather than relying on traditional wired infrastructure. This allows cameras to be installed wherever there is private cellular network coverage and AC power.
Coverage can extend from a few hundred metres to several kilometres per base station. The private cellular network setup uses SIM-based device authentication, encryption and controlled device provisioning to protect data and communications.
Axis expects the back box to launch in select EMEA countries in August.
High-Speed Imaging
Axis also unveiled the AXIS P1486-LE Global Shutter Camera, which it described as the first global shutter camera in the video surveillance market. The device uses a CMOS global shutter to capture images of fast-moving objects without the distortion associated with rolling shutter effects.
The camera is aimed at environments where motion blur can undermine image quality, including vehicle monitoring and other high-speed settings. Continuous and strobing infrared illumination supports the capture of vehicles and number plates in difficult lighting conditions.
The device runs on the ARTPEC-9 system-on-chip, enabling analytics to run directly on the camera. This can reduce the amount of processing that servers elsewhere in a deployment handle.
The AXIS P1486-LE Global Shutter Camera is due to be available through Axis distribution channels from June.
Plate Recognition
To complement the new camera, Axis has launched AXIS Licence Plate Verifier, an edge-based application for licence plate recognition in vehicle access control and free-flow traffic settings. The software was developed by FF Group, whose licence plate recognition analytics are now part of Axis.
The application supports automated allowlists and blocklists, enabling actions such as opening gates or barriers. Logged events can also be searched and reviewed later. The latest version is available now under licence and as a 60-day trial.
Thermal Range
Axis has expanded its thermal product line with two devices. The AXIS Q2802-E Bispectral Camera combines a 640x480 thermal sensor with a 4K visual sensor in one unit, while the AXIS F2180-TE Thermal Sensor is designed for more discreet installations.
The bispectral camera is intended for long-range detection and remote temperature monitoring. It also includes thermal-visual image fusion, which overlays thermal information onto the visual stream.
The F2180-TE Thermal Sensor works with AXIS F91 main units and provides spot temperature readings and deviation alerts, making it suitable for sensitive or space-constrained environments that require a smaller installation footprint.
Both thermal products are scheduled to be available through distribution channels in the second quarter.
Wider Coverage
Axis also added to its panoramic camera range with the M4337/38 PLVE and AXIS M4347/48 PLVE Panoramic Cameras. These models come in 6 MP and 12 MP versions and provide 360-degree views, with built-in infrared for night imaging.
The AXIS M4347/48 models include integrated microphones for audio streaming and analytics. Like the global shutter camera, the panoramic range uses the ARTPEC-9 chip to run analytics on the device.
The units are built for indoor and outdoor use, with IP66 and IK10 ratings and an operating temperature range from -40 °C to +50 °C. The new M43 series will be available in the second quarter.
Access Control
In access control, Axis has added two IP readers, the AXIS A4610 and AXIS A4611 Network Reader with keypad, as well as three OSDP readers: the AXIS A4030-E, AXIS A4130-E and AXIS A4131-E with keypad. The products are designed to work with Axis door controllers in IP-based access control systems.
The readers can be remotely managed and are built for a range of installations. Some models provide an IP-powered interface for individual doors within an open access control setup. The new readers are available now through Axis distribution channels.
Axis, which is headquartered in Lund, Sweden, employs around 5,000 people in more than 50 countries.
