Bitdefender unveils new family security plans for consumers

Bitdefender has announced the introduction of new Family Plans for its consumer security product lines, offering personalized and centrally managed solutions tailored to the needs of individual family members.

The launch addresses the rising need for customizable security measures in the face of growing global cybercrime and online fraud. The Global State of Scams Report 2024 details that financial losses from scams have exceeded USD $1 trillion. In addition, Bitdefender's 2024 Cybersecurity Assessment Report revealed that nearly 24.3% of over 7,000 respondents experienced a security event in the past year.

The Bitdefender Family Plans establish a benchmark for family-focused security, moving beyond traditional plan-sharing to incorporate a more personalized and collaborative approach for managing security among up to five family members.

Utilizing a user-friendly dashboard, family members are assigned roles tailored according to factors such as age, the types of devices they use, required security and privacy solutions, and content permissions they need. Parents can, for instance, control and monitor web content and set screen times for younger users, while adults maintain full control over their own privacy settings.

A Family Manager is designated to oversee the entirety of the Bitdefender security settings and permissions, manage device tracking, handle product updates, and settle billing. The option to include a Secondary Manager role offers additional flexibility and simplicity for managing shared security tasks.

The plan introduces four distinct user roles. The Family Manager, who holds an individual Bitdefender account, has comprehensive control over the product subscriptions, family security settings, and management responsibilities. Adult Members are afforded autonomy with control over their accounts, privacy concerning online banking and financial information, and have the capability to be designated as Secondary Managers for enhanced family security supervision. Teenagers benefit from adult-like security features but remain under the administration of the Family Manager.

Children's profiles are securely managed with full oversight of their activities, which involves monitoring online content, managing screen time, and controlling application usage to ensure their environment remains protected.
