HCLTech partners with OpenAI to drive enterprise AI adoption

Today

HCLTech has entered a multi-year strategic collaboration with OpenAI to facilitate large-scale adoption of generative artificial intelligence throughout enterprise operations.

Under this collaboration, HCLTech will integrate OpenAI's models across its proprietary AI platforms, including AI Force and AI Foundry, with the aim of bringing these capabilities to clients in multiple key industries. The company described the partnership as a significant development in enabling large organisations to securely embed generative AI at scale, from readiness assessments and model integration to governance and change management.

HCLTech stated that the combination of its industry knowledge and engineering expertise provides a foundation for broad-scale AI transformation.

OpenAI, which is known for developing widely used generative AI foundation models, will provide access to its products and solutions as HCLTech expands its enterprise AI offerings.

HCLTech indicated it would also roll out ChatGPT Enterprise and OpenAI APIs to internal teams, enabling staff to use secure, enterprise-grade generative AI tools in day-to-day operations.

Partnership details

The collaboration is expected to support HCLTech's clients in modernising business processes, enhancing customer and employee experiences, and unlocking growth opportunities. HCLTech plans to embed OpenAI's models not only into proprietary platforms but also across industry-specific accelerators, emphasising the ability to cover the full AI lifecycle for enterprise clients – starting with readiness and integration and extending to adoption, governance and managing organisational change.

Client sectors affected by the partnership include financial services, manufacturing, life sciences and healthcare, high tech, semiconductor, telecom and media, retail and consumer packaged goods, as well as public services.

HCLTech employs over 223,000 people across 60 countries and reported consolidated revenues of USD $13.8 billion for the twelve months ending March 2025.

Executive perspectives

"We are honored to work with OpenAI, the global leader in generative AI foundation models. This collaboration underscores our commitment to empowering Global 2000 enterprises with transformative AI solutions. It reaffirms HCLTech's robust engineering heritage and aligns with OpenAI's spirit of innovation. Together, we are driving a new era of AI-powered transformation across our offerings and operations at a global scale," said Vijay Guntur, Global Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Head of Ecosystems at HCLTech.

HCLTech's approach involves a holistic integration of OpenAI's technologies, aiming to deliver new efficiencies and enhanced digital experiences for both clients and employees.

As part of the partnership, HCLTech will provide end-to-end support, beginning with assessment of readiness, through deployment, and continuing with ongoing management and governance of AI solutions.

From OpenAI's perspective, the collaboration is an example of how system integrators can expand the enterprise reach of generative AI models, linking AI innovation directly with client operations and productivity goals.

"HCLTech's deep industry knowledge and AI engineering expertise sets the stage for scalable AI innovation. As one of the first system integration companies to integrate OpenAI to improve efficiency and enhance customer experiences, they're accelerating productivity and setting a new standard for how industries can transform using generative AI," said Giancarlo 'GC' Lionetti, Chief Commercial Officer at OpenAI.

Industry trajectory

The multi-year collaboration places HCLTech among the early strategic services partners for OpenAI, indicating a significant willingness by both firms to develop long-term support for clients wishing to embed generative AI across complex business environments.

The integration of OpenAI models into HCLTech's existing platforms will grant access to advanced generative functionalities, including natural language processing and content generation capabilities, directly into vertical-specific solutions.

The announcement follows a general trend within the technology sector, as large service providers and research organisations look to combine domain expertise and cutting-edge AI tools for enterprise-scale applications.

The partnership aims to establish templates for readiness assessment, integration approaches, and ongoing management for generative AI across regulated and high-compliance sectors.

HCLTech's rollout of these AI services to its own staff also points to an internal transformation, empowering staff with secure generative AI tools that meet enterprise requirements for data security and privacy.
