Hitachi Vantara & BMC join forces for hybrid cloud era

Mon, 17th Feb 2025

Hitachi Vantara has announced a strategic alliance with BMC Software to address the demands of hybrid cloud solutions and enhance mainframe innovation.

The collaboration will integrate Hitachi Vantara's advanced storage solutions with BMC's software offerings, targeting the needs of enterprises looking to modernise their mainframe infrastructure. The alliance aims to enable enterprises to optimise operations, reduce costs, and enhance data security.

A Forrester study reveals that 66% of organisations are currently upgrading their mainframe infrastructure, a move considered crucial by 96% of IT decision-makers for deriving greater benefits in the future.

The study highlights the need for a unified strategy that addresses both on-premises and cloud infrastructure requirements, with a focus on data security, processing large data volumes, accessible systems, and maintaining application integrity.

As enterprises increasingly embrace hybrid cloud technologies, they face challenges in data management and security.

This partnership seeks to streamline operations across mainframes, thus reducing operating costs and improving operational capabilities. The combination of the BMC AMI mainframe software portfolio with Hitachi Vantara's Virtual Storage Platform One and Hitachi Content Platform aims to deliver a suite of solutions that are easily deployable within such environments.

"By establishing this strategic partnership with BMC, we are addressing the evolving demands of hybrid cloud solutions and supporting our clients' journey toward innovation," said Greg Bucyk, Vice President of Strategic Partners and Alliances at Hitachi Vantara. "This collaboration enables organizations to maximize the value of their data, turning challenges into opportunities for sustainable growth and upgraded operational efficiency."

Customer benefits from the alliance include cost efficiency, enhanced security, improved automation, data monetisation, and increased simplicity in IT infrastructure management.

The solutions are expected to help businesses protect critical data from cyber threats and streamline workflows, allowing IT teams to focus on strategic initiatives.

The collaboration introduces features such as real-time threat detection, strong encryption, and tools for simplifying workflows, all of which aid in generating valuable insights from the mainframe data. Additionally, the alliance supports businesses in securing and future-proofing their mainframe environments as part of the hybrid cloud reality.

"This partnership helps improve delivery of innovative, practical solutions that help organisations maximize their data," said John McKenny, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Intelligent Z Optimization and Transformation, BMC.

"Hitachi Vantara and BMC's alliance combines Hitachi Vantara's leading data infrastructure with BMC AMI's software expertise to unlock mainframe potential. In particular, we expect that it will accelerate our clients' ability to secure and future-proof their mainframe environments in the hybrid cloud reality which they face."

"Integrating mainframe data is essential for success in today's hybrid cloud environments, yet many organisations face challenges like outdated applications and security concerns," said Steve White, Program Vice President for IDC's worldwide channels and alliances research.

"The partnership between Hitachi Vantara and BMC helps address these issues by offering efficient, low-risk solutions for modernization. This collaboration enhances IT systems and allows organisations to tap into cloud benefits more quickly, supporting innovation and helping businesses maintain a competitive edge in a changing market."
