Select ID gains UK DIATF & ISO 27001 security nods
Select ID has gained certification under the UK Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework as an Orchestration Service Provider. The company has also secured ISO/IEC 27001 certification for information security management.
The Investing and Saving Alliance said the certifications marked a milestone for Select ID as it builds a reusable digital identity network focused on financial services. The framework sits within a wider UK effort to establish trusted approaches to digital identity and attribute services across the economy.
Trust framework
The UK Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework sets requirements for organisations that provide digital identity and attribute services, including governance, security, privacy and transparency. Orchestration Service Providers sit between organisations that need to verify customers and the providers that issue reusable digital identities.
In Select ID's case, the certification covers its role in managing connections to multiple reusable digital identity providers. The company describes its service as an orchestration network that lets organisations access a range of digital identity services through one integrated connection and a single contract.
The ISO/IEC 27001 certification confirms that Select ID has implemented an information security management system that meets the international standard. The company said it has implemented an Orchestration Network Management System, which covers the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data across its operations.
Industry background
TISA said it had worked on reusable digital IDs during earlier industry activity and had been involved in Select ID's incubation. Carol Knight, Chief Executive Officer, TISA UK, linked digital identity to changes in how consumers access financial services.
"Having been involved in its incubation through our previous work on reusable Digital IDs, TISA are delighted to see Select ID reach this important milestone and become the UK's only dedicated identity orchestration network with DIATF certification," said Carol Knight, Chief Executive Officer, TISA UK.
"By removing the friction caused by lengthy onboarding processes and identity verification, reusable digital IDs help bridge the gap left by the disappearance of physical bank branches and support access to essential financial services. Achieving these certifications shows how Select ID is prioritising consumer protection and building a network which operates at the highest standards of security," Knight added.
Reusable digital identity has drawn interest from banks, insurers and wealth managers that need to meet know-your-customer and anti-money laundering requirements. Firms have also faced continued pressure to improve digital onboarding while keeping checks consistent across channels.
How it works
Select ID describes its network as inclusive and backed by leading financial institutions. The service allows consumers to choose a preferred UK government-certified reusable identity provider. Companies can then request identity services through Select ID's orchestration layer, rather than integrating separately with multiple providers.
The DIATF certification confirms that Select ID meets government requirements for orchestrating digital identity services. This includes the ability to connect to, manage and optimise across multiple reusable digital identity service providers through a single contract and integrated connection, according to TISA.
The ISO/IEC 27001 certification is widely used by financial services and technology suppliers as a benchmark for information security governance. It requires organisations to define controls, assess risks, and run processes for incident management, supplier oversight and continual improvement.
Next steps
Larry Banda, Chief Executive Officer, TISA Commercial Enterprises, said the combination of certifications would shape confidence among firms and consumers adopting reusable digital IDs.
"With these certifications, Select ID is providing the essential layer of trust needed for firms and consumers to confidently embrace reusable digital IDs. This is a significant step in streamlining the customer journey, making it easier for customers to access financial products without worrying about security. It also enables firms to significantly improve their onboarding experience, confident in the knowledge that they are supported by the highest international standards of security, governance and risk management," said Banda.
TISA has approximately 270 member firms involved in the supply and distribution of savings and investment products, as well as related services. TISA Commercial Enterprise operates as a subsidiary and runs the organisation's commercial initiatives.
Select ID now holds the DIATF certification for its orchestration role and ISO/IEC 27001 for information security management. The company will need to maintain both certifications through ongoing assessments as it expands connections with reusable identity providers and financial services firms.
