Trend Micro unveils AI model to boost threat prevention

Today

Trend Micro has announced the introduction of Trend Cybertron, a cybersecurity large language model (LLM) that aims to enable proactive threat prevention.

Included in the Trend Vision One platform, Trend Cybertron is designed to enhance risk management, threat modelling, and attack prediction capabilities. The system is based on a wealth of threat intelligence collected over 35 years and is supported by more than 250 million sensors and 3,000 security experts worldwide.

Eva Chen, CEO of Trend Micro, commented, "Trend is building a cybersecurity AI agent unlike any other. We're bringing together a massive quantity of the highest-quality data in the industry to supercharge our capabilities and make it easier than ever for customers to proactively manage their cyber risk. Our customers and partners are already seeing reduced costs and improved security posture."

This new AI extends beyond a standalone LLM by integrating core technologies, including threat data, analytics, and engines, within the Trend Vision One platform. The platform aims to provide a complete solution for addressing cybersecurity workloads for organisations.

As organisations face increasingly intricate security challenges, Trend Cybertron connects real-time and historical data to accelerate security outcomes, reduce alert overloads, and offer more powerful insights from existing risk sensors.

Stuart MacLellan, CTO at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, said, "This evolution of AI in the Trend platform is unique as it calculates our constantly changing risk profile and cross references millions of bits of data for custom threat intelligence. This has made it possible to be more proactive than reactive with our security strategy."

The new AI capabilities facilitate a shift from detection-centric cybersecurity to prevention-focused strategies. Frank Dickson, Group Vice President for Security & Trust at IDC, said, "Let's face it. Cybersecurity has been detection-centric for some time. Prevention was simply uncool. Trend is looking to change the market narrative; there is no need to detect an attack if it never happens." He emphasised that the new approach enables organisations to foresee threats and diminish risk, yielding significant returns on investment for security teams.

Trend Cybertron is touted to evolve constantly, driven by extensive intelligence from sensors and input from security experts. Mick McCluney, ANZ Field CTO at Trend, stated, "Trend Cybertron represents a paradigm shift in cybersecurity—combining advanced AI with decades of human intelligence to deliver truly proactive security."

The platform aims to redefine security industry standards by ensuring complete data access in decision-making processes to build secure intelligence systems. This move is intended to reduce data breach risks and associated costs while allaying concerns over data security linked with AI expansion.

The new model's key offerings are actionable insights and comprehensive visibility, ensuring fast and effective mitigation around the clock. The approach simplifies security workflows and empowers leadership by transforming cybersecurity management into a proactive driver of business growth.

Trend Micro has collaborated extensively to ensure the AI agent delivers effective, proactive security outcomes. Industry analysts continue to recognise Trend Micro as a leader in various cybersecurity domains, and the company is noted for its pioneering use of AI in cybersecurity solutions.
