Abnormal AI has appointed Don Jeter as Chief Marketing Officer as the cybersecurity company broadens its focus in AI security.

Jeter joins as Abnormal pushes beyond the email security market where it first made its name. It now applies its behavioural AI approach to identity and to a newer AI security offering designed to help enterprises manage how AI is adopted and used.

Abnormal says it protects more than 5,000 organisations, including 30% of the Fortune 500. It has also launched an AI Security suite and partnered with OpenAI as it seeks a larger role in enterprise AI security.

Jeter most recently served as Chief Marketing Officer at Torq. Earlier in his career, he held senior marketing roles at Symantec and Veritas Technologies, and led global marketing at Pax82 during a period when the business grew from USD $5 million to USD $1 billion in annual recurring revenue.

In the new role, he will report to Founder and Chief Executive Officer Evan Reiser and oversee Abnormal's global marketing team. The appointment is part of a broader effort to expand the company's international presence and sharpen how it presents its business to the market.

Abnormal has built its business around analysing patterns of normal activity to identify suspicious behaviour. It first applied that method to email security, where vendors have long competed on their ability to spot phishing, account compromise and other attacks that can evade rule-based tools.

The company says the same method can be extended to a wider range of systems as organisations adopt more AI tools internally. That includes monitoring how identities and AI systems behave, at a time when businesses are weighing the benefits of automation against the security risks that can come with it.

Cybersecurity groups have increasingly tried to position themselves around AI as customers assess new threats and new software. For established security vendors and newer entrants alike, the challenge is not only to build products for that market but also to explain where they fit in a crowded field.

That helps explain the significance of a senior marketing hire at a company seeking broader recognition beyond its original niche. Jeter is known in the sector for direct and unconventional marketing campaigns, and his appointment suggests Abnormal wants a stronger profile as competition intensifies.

Reiser outlined the company's approach in a statement on the appointment.

"Many security tools look for known threats. We look for abnormal behavior, which helps us detect and stop previously unseen attacks," said Evan Reiser, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Abnormal AI. "That approach started in email, has been extended to identity, and is now the foundation of how we help secure AI. And as AI takes on real responsibility inside organizations, the question isn't just who has access. It's whether activity across identities and AI are behaving as expected. Everyone talks about AI. We've been building for it for years. Don will make sure the market knows it."

Jeter said the rise of AI is changing the security challenge companies face because attackers can use the same technology as defenders.

"As AI becomes more powerful, the risks go far beyond the agents companies deploy. Attackers are using the same technology to become more sophisticated, making it harder than ever to tell legitimate behavior from malicious activity," said Don Jeter, Chief Marketing Officer of Abnormal AI. "Abnormal built its behavioral AI approach to understand what normal looks like, long before this new wave of AI emerged. That foundation is how we protect enterprises as the threat landscape evolves. It's why I believe Abnormal is the most important cybersecurity company of the AI era, and why I couldn't pass up this mission."
