AliExpress dash cam sales rise as fraud fears grow
Mon, 1st Jun 2026 (Today)
Sales of dash cams on AliExpress have risen 20% this year in the UK, as concern over insurance fraud remains high among drivers.
Demand is close to matching last year's 30% increase, with motorists buying dash cams to gather video evidence for claims and disputed incidents. AliExpress highlighted the 70mai Dash Cam, priced at £32.99, as one of the products attracting buyers.
Industry figures cited by AliExpress point to a tougher environment for motorists. Admiral reported a 71% rise in insurance fraud last year, while the Insurance Fraud Bureau received more than 9,400 reports of insurance fraud in 2025.
Dash cams have become more common in UK vehicles as drivers seek a record of collisions, near misses and car park incidents. Footage can support insurance claims and, in some cases, be submitted to police forces that accept public video evidence of dangerous driving through online reporting portals.
According to the National Dash Cam Safety Portal, more than 33,000 dangerous driving videos were sent to police in 2023. The figure highlights a broader shift in how motorists use in-car cameras, not only to document insurance disputes but also to report road offences.
Product focus
AliExpress said thousands of shoppers had bought the 70mai M310 Plus dash cam. According to the retailer, the device records in 2K resolution and has a 143-degree field of view.
The model also includes voice control in English and Mandarin, a parking mode activated by collision detection, and time-lapse recording designed to reduce storage demands. It is covered by a one-year warranty and a 15-day return or refund policy, AliExpress said.
The platform also pointed to its Brand+ Best Price Guarantee, under which customers can receive a price match or a refund of the difference if they find the item cheaper elsewhere within seven days of purchase. UK local delivery takes one to three days, while some international shipments can arrive in as little as five days, it said.
Consumer response
Customer ratings supplied by AliExpress indicate strong feedback for the dash cam range. The retailer said the product has an average score of 4.8 out of five stars and that more than 100,000 people had rated the brand highly over the past six months.
One buyer wrote: "I have now bought 3 of these as I was so impressed with the first one. Great picture quality, quite compact so it can be hidden behind the rear view mirror (my wife moans if she can see the dash cam)." Another said: "can't fault it for the money."
A further review stated: "Fast delivery. Good for the price. Really liked the voice control and the convenient smartphone app, as well as the availability of the Ukrainian language."
Fraud concerns
The rise in demand reflects long-running concern over so-called crash-for-cash incidents, in which collisions are staged or liability is manipulated to support false insurance claims. Dash cam footage can give insurers and drivers an independent record of events, helping establish what happened on the road.
Sales growth also comes amid wider pressure on household budgets, with motorists weighing the cost of car insurance against the price of preventative tools. Lower-cost devices sold through large online marketplaces may be widening access to equipment once seen as a specialist purchase.
Finch Li, general manager of AliExpress UK, linked the rise in sales to changing shopping habits on the platform. "As AliExpress proudly celebrates its anniversary, we're seeing more British shoppers turning to the platform as they seek premium items with better deals. Our enhanced Brand+ offering is a direct response to this shift," Li said.
"Brand+ guarantees verified sellers, reliable product quality and competitive prices. It also provides a worry-free delivery experience with free and fast shipping. Our promise to deliver trusted brands, unbeatable value and seamless convenience is a core part of our broader commitment to caring for consumers.
"As we embark on another year of serving hundreds of millions of consumers, our commitment remains unwavering."
70mai, founded in 2016, sells in more than 100 countries across Europe, South East Asia, North America and Asia-Pacific. The company said it has sold 2 million dash cams in a single year.
