Appdome launches AI-native defences for mobile apps

Today

Appdome has introduced new AI-native mobile defences aimed at shielding mobile banking, fintech, trading, and other Android and iOS applications from threats such as trojans, spyware, and malware.

The platform upgrade, which consists of 24 dynamic defence plugins, targets hundreds of Banking Trojans, Trojan Spyware, and Remote Access Trojan malware. These plugins leverage in-app behavioural analysis to counter the growing number of trojan malware cases impacting mobile banking, fintech, trading, mCommerce, and more.

"The surge of trojan malware and fraud is top of mind in the mobile economy," said Tom Tovar, Co-Creator and Chief Executive Officer of Appdome. "We study more than 5 billion data points every week to understand how polymorphic trojan malware behaves and design defences that are purpose-built for the job of defeating each type of trojan threat."

The new threat protection offerings from Appdome aim to tackle specific trojan threats, with features such as blocking unauthorized overlays and phishing attempts, preventing credential theft, neutralising remote access threats, and preventing data leaks.

Richard Stiennon, Chief Research Analyst at IT-Harvest, commented, "Banking Trojans, Trojan Spyware, and Remote Access Trojans present multiple threats to a mobile business and user. Appdome's model of using defence plugins gives mobile brands and businesses the power to choose which threat to detect and how to defend against that threat."

The rise in trojan threats is not contained within any geographical boundary and has led to an increased demand for robust mobile security measures. Banking Trojans like Xenomorph and SharkBot have evolved to bypass multi-factor authentications, while spyware such as Pegasus poses significant surveillance risks.

Remote Access Trojans (RATs), including BRATA and AndroRAT, can take full control over infected devices, potentially resulting in financial losses or data breaches.

"With this update, we're providing granular detection and response control against a massive variety of Android & iOS trojan malware," stated Chris Roeckl, Chief Product Officer at Appdome. "Where siloed point products can only touch these threats tangentially, our big data footprint and AI-native delivery model means that we're uniquely positioned to detect each specific threat and help mobile businesses stay ahead of the curve in known and zero-day threats."

Appdome's plugins are designed to guard against malicious exploits such as task hijacking, screen overlays, and logging attacks. Each plugin offers fast and seamless integration without the need for manual coding or the deployment of additional servers. The AI-driven defences adapt in real-time, aiming to provide comprehensive protection against both current and evolving threats.

The defence solutions also include features like Appdome's Threat-Events Intelligence and Control Framework and ThreatScope Threat Analytics, which collect threat data and help tailor user experiences during security incidents. These capabilities allow mobile brands to manage and respond to security challenges effectively.

Looking ahead, Appdome will continue developing their AI-native mobile defence solutions to protect businesses and consumers from increasingly sophisticated attack vectors targeting Android and iOS applications worldwide.
