BlackFog unveils advanced platform for ransomware defence

Tue, 19th Nov 2024

BlackFog has announced the release of its next generation enterprise platform, featuring updates designed to enhance ransomware and insider threat prevention.

The Version 5 platform focuses on anti data exfiltration, preventing unauthorised data from leaving a device, thereby protecting sensitive organisational information. This release comes at a critical time as ransomware attacks, which now involve data exfiltration in 93% of incidents, continue to affect businesses globally.

The latest enhancements include air gap protection, real-time geofencing, and baseline activity monitoring. Air gap protection ensures that no data leaves without passing through an AI-based threat detection engine. This feature acts as a barrier, blocking communication entirely instead of resetting an existing connection, to reassure users that their intellectual property and other sensitive data are not accessible outside the network.

Real-time geofencing leverages BlackFog's global network to identify the destination of every packet. This feature aims to improve detection accuracy of bad actors, stopping data breaches and lateral movement across networks. By geolocating the intended packet destination and gathering signals to verify its legitimacy, this enhancement adds an additional layer of defence.

Baseline activity monitoring, another of the platform's new features, uses AI-based algorithms to identify zero-day attacks and monitor process behaviour, intent, and data chains. It enables the detection of unusual activities by setting traffic volume thresholds. Once exfiltration exceeds the configured threshold, it triggers an alert, thereby protecting against threats like rogue employees or insider breaches.

Dr. Darren Williams, CEO and Founder of BlackFog, remarked, "We've introduced powerful new features to help those on the front line of the fight against costly, disruptive and, in some cases, devastating ransomware attacks. It's the culmination of years of research and development and underlines our commitment to delivering the highest levels of cybersecurity protection."

He added, "With AI being leveraged by bad actors for deepfakes and other advanced phishing techniques, it is important organizations are equally armed with tools like BlackFog to fight back."
