Commvault launches cyber resilience platform on AWS
Commvault has announced the availability of its Commvault Cloud cyber resilience platform on Amazon Web Services (AWS), including features such as Cleanroom Recovery, Commvault SaaS Offerings, Air Gap Protect, and Cloud Rewind.
The Commvault Cloud platform, with its suite of software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings, aims to provide AWS customers with automation in data protection, enhanced cyber recovery capabilities, and a simplified process for rebuilding cloud applications following a cyberattack.
With an increasing number of organisations adopting cloud-first strategies, cyber resilience remains critical. According to recent research, 73% of new data is projected to be stored in the cloud. Commvault's partnership with AWS is expected to offer organisations additional opportunities to enhance their resilience using the AWS Cloud.
The Cloud Rewind feature leverages Appranix technology to act as an "AWS time machine," allowing users to revert to the last clean copy of data and automate cloud application rebuilding. This promises a significant reduction in recovery time from potential cyber incidents.
Commvault will also be introducing new technology for Amazon S3 customers through its recent acquisition of Clumio. These advancements aim to provide rapid restoration of clean data copies in the event of malware infiltration, particularly benefiting companies with large datasets, including those related to artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The Air Gap Protect offering adds an additional layer of security by providing immutable, isolated copies of data as a service. This is designed to strengthen AWS customers' data safety and resilience against cyber threats.
In expanding the Cleanroom Recovery feature to AWS, Commvault enables organisations to automatically set up recovery infrastructure in an isolated AWS location and restore production workloads quickly. This facility also supports regular testing of cyber recovery plans, improving preparedness against potential attacks.
Commvault already serves a significant number of customers who use AWS for data storage, having backed up exabytes of data to AWS targets within the past year. The expansion of the Commvault Cloud platform on AWS is likely to increase this volume further.
The full suite of Commvault's solutions for AWS is set to be generally available in the coming months, with access facilitated via the AWS Marketplace for joint customers.
