Digital Barriers partners with Sonic for advanced surveillance solutions

Thu, 22nd Aug 2024

Digital Barriers has announced its partnership with Sonic Communications to deliver live surveillance solutions to law enforcement organisations. The collaboration aims to enhance the companies' capabilities in providing reliable and secure video connectivity over cellular networks, applicable for both vehicular use and customised covert surveillance devices.

The partnership leverages the complementary strengths of both firms. Digital Barriers brings its expertise in software, particularly its EdgeVis technology, which offers live video and analytics over cellular networks. Sonic Communications, with nearly 50 years of experience, specialises in the design, build, and supply of advanced audio and video surveillance solutions, including bespoke vehicle installations for emergency services and covert devices designed to blend seamlessly into various environments.

Kevin McDonald, Group Managing Director of Sonic Communications, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “Our extensive design capabilities and pedigree in law enforcement make us the perfect partner for any police force wanting to leverage EdgeVis for live video over cellular applications. We are particularly excited by the multi-stream options that will allow customers to cut costs by increasing the number of video feeds per data SIM,” he said.

Zak Doffman, CEO of Digital Barriers, also commented on the long-standing collaboration between the two companies. “We’re delighted to officially onboard Sonic Communications following many years of proven collaboration. I’ve no doubt that together we can simplify deployment, improve reliability and lower the costs of remote surveillance operations for the law enforcement community,” he noted.

For over a decade, Digital Barriers has provided live video and analytics over cellular networks to federal and local law enforcement agencies. The company's solutions have also been deployed in various high-security settings, including military operations in the Middle East, NATO deployments, presidential inaugurations, Olympic Games, and royal events.

Sonic Communications, known for its bespoke solutions, has built a reputation as a market expert in the design and supply of specialist audio and video surveillance equipment. The firm's in-house team is well-regarded for its innovation in developing equipment that blends into its surroundings, making its products particularly useful for covert surveillance operations.

The partnership aims to meet the growing demand for secure and reliable video connectivity from vehicles and customised covert surveillance setups. Digital Barriers' EdgeVis technology is recognised for its ability to significantly reduce bandwidth requirements by up to 90% without compromising on video quality. This makes it especially beneficial in situations where situational awareness is critical.

In addition to the technical advantages, the companies aim to leverage their shared heritage as trusted suppliers to police, military, and government entities worldwide. This shared history is expected to further bolster the confidence of law enforcement agencies in adopting these advanced surveillance solutions.
