Ekco acquires Predatech to boost UK cyber security services

Today

Ekco has acquired Manchester-based cyber security consultancy Predatech in a move that expands its security service offerings and sets up its first office in northern England.

Predatech, founded in 2020 by Jason Johnson and Michael Fotis, specialises in CREST-accredited penetration testing and assurance services, and has built a client base of more than 250 organisations with a client retention rate exceeding 90%.

This latest acquisition is Ekco's fourth in 18 months and follows recent research from the company indicating that 62% of organisations lack confidence in their ability to withstand modern AI-enabled cyber attacks.

The acquisition forms part of Ekco's long-term strategy to broaden its cyber security capabilities and extend its geographical reach within the UK. The addition of Predatech is expected to enhance Ekco's penetration testing services, which include simulating real-world cyber attacks to identify vulnerabilities before they are exploited by malicious actors.

Following the acquisition, Predatech will operate as a dedicated security unit within Ekco's Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) division. This arrangement ensures continued service for existing Predatech clients while also opening up opportunities for collaboration across Ekco's broader suite of security offerings.

Jason Johnson, Co-Founder and Lead Cyber Security Consultant at Predatech, said: "Joining forces with Ekco represents an exciting new chapter for Predatech. Our team has worked hard to build a reputation for delivering high-quality cyber security services, and with Ekco's support, we can scale our capabilities even further. We're excited to bring our expertise in penetration testing and compliance to Ekco's growing security portfolio."

For Predatech, integration with Ekco will provide access to advanced technologies and a wider customer base, supporting the consultancy's expansion. The acquisition also sets up Ekco's first office in Manchester, increasing its presence in the North-West and providing a gateway to the region's cyber security talent pool.

Lee Driver, Vice President of Managed Security Services at Ekco, stated: "Predatech's expertise in penetration testing and compliance services is a perfect addition to Ekco's MSSP offering. This acquisition not only strengthens our security capabilities but also gives us presence in Manchester and the North-West, an important hub for innovation and cyber security talent. We look forward to working with the Predatech team to deliver best-in-class security solutions to our clients."

The acquisition process was supported by Oaklins S&W. David Ball, who led the deal from Oaklins S&W, commented: "It's been a pleasure working with Jason, Mike and the wider Predatech team over the last number of months. We're delighted to have advised them throughout this process and have secured a fantastic result for both the shareholders and the company. Ekco are perfectly placed to support the team as the business enters its next phase of growth and we look forward to seeing how the journey continues."

By incorporating Predatech's specialisms in penetration testing and compliance, Ekco continues to invest in cyber security expertise at a time when digital threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, particularly with the emergence of AI-powered attacks.

With the addition of Predatech, Ekco aims to provide its clients with a more comprehensive approach to cyber security, combining enhanced assessment, testing capabilities, and ongoing support through its expanded UK-based operations.
