Quorum Cyber names Joe Strathmann Chief Operating Officer
Quorum Cyber has appointed Joe Strathmann as Chief Operating Officer, bringing in an executive with experience in managed security services and security operations centre delivery at Secureworks and Rapid7.
Strathmann will lead operational execution across Quorum Cyber's cybersecurity services, including scaling delivery of Microsoft Security services to international customers.
Based in Edinburgh, Quorum Cyber also has a presence in North America. It positions itself as a "Microsoft-first" cybersecurity services provider, working with organisations in the UK, North America, and other markets.
Strathmann has more than 25 years of experience in IT services and cybersecurity. In senior operational leadership roles at Secureworks and Rapid7, he led managed security services, security operations centres, and professional services teams supporting customers worldwide.
The appointment comes as security providers and customers respond to shifts in threat activity linked to the wider use of artificial intelligence. Security teams are paying closer attention to how attackers can misuse legitimate tools and automation. Organisations have also raised concerns about expanding attack surfaces as they adopt large language models and AI-enabled applications.
Operational focus
Strathmann's remit includes aligning security operations delivery with customer experience. Quorum Cyber is rolling out an operating model that brings together security intelligence, incident response, advisory work, and security operations centre services under a single structure.
Federico Charosky, Chief Executive Officer of Quorum Cyber, said the company is changing how it runs its services as it grows.
"We are delighted to welcome Joe to Quorum Cyber at an important stage in our journey," Charosky said. "He joins at a time when the company is rapidly evolving its operating model, focusing on delivering stronger productivity, clearer ownership of security outcomes and outstanding customer experience. Drawing on his experience running security operations at global scale, he will focus on bringing the organisation closer to the customer, while unlocking the power of AI in delivering frontier-grade security capabilities."
The business has highlighted a need for clearer operational ownership as customers respond to incidents and manage cyber risk over time. Many large organisations rely on a mix of internal teams and external suppliers across security operations, advisory services, and tooling. This structure can create hand-offs during incident response and longer remediation programmes.
Strathmann said Quorum Cyber's approach is to give customers a single operating model across those functions.
"Too often organisations are forced to navigate multiple teams when dealing with cyber risk," Strathmann said. "The model we're building brings intelligence, incident response, advisory expertise, and SOC operations together along with our deep expertise in Microsoft security tool sets, so customers experience security as one coordinated capability with clear ownership of the outcome. When threats emerge, they know exactly who is responsible and how their security is being managed."
Microsoft ties
Quorum Cyber's services centre on Microsoft's security stack. The company is a Microsoft Solutions Partner for Security and a member of the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association. It was named Microsoft Security MSSP of the Year for 2025.
Strathmann is expected to shape how Quorum Cyber delivers Microsoft Security services for customers adopting the platform at scale. This includes operational processes alongside the software, such as monitoring, incident response workflows, and advisory services on governance and risk decisions.
Delivery models in managed security services have shifted in recent years as vendors and service providers integrate more automation into detection and response. Providers have also introduced AI tools into analyst workflows. In parallel, many customers have sought measurable outcomes and clearer reporting on the effectiveness of their security controls.
Quorum Cyber says its threat-led services are delivered by security professionals and supported by AI technology, which it links to faster delivery and more consistent results. The company is also building an integrated model across intelligence, incident response, advisory work, and SOC operations.
Growth backdrop
Founded in Edinburgh in 2016, Quorum Cyber has expanded its customer base in the UK and North America and positioned itself around proactive, threat-led services. Its stated mission is "to help good people win by providing clarity and confidence in moments of cyber risk."
Operational leaders in the managed security market often take responsibility for service consistency, incident response readiness, and scaling delivery teams. They also manage the balance between standardised processes and bespoke customer requirements. Quorum Cyber says Strathmann will focus on strengthening the operational foundation of its services as it expands.
The company will continue developing its coordinated service model as customers increase their use of Microsoft Security tools and seek closer alignment between security operations and business outcomes.
