Riverlane appoints Liz Durst as VP of QEC community

Yesterday

Riverlane, a firm in the field of quantum error correction, has announced the appointment of Liz Durst as Vice President of QEC Community.

Liz Durst previously headed Qiskit, IBM's Quantum Community, where she was instrumental in building Qiskit into the dominant player in the quantum computing developer tools market. Utilised by more than 600,000 users worldwide, Qiskit serves as a fundamental teaching tool for over 700 universities globally, helping to lay the foundations for quantum computing education.

Steve Brierley, CEO and Founder of Riverlane, commented on Liz's appointment, "The NISQ era marked the beginning of meaningful engagement with quantum computing, and Liz was at the forefront of that movement. Now, at the dawn of a new era for quantum computing, we see parallels and enormous opportunities to create a similar impact in quantum error correction. With Liz at the helm of our community efforts, Riverlane is well-positioned to lead this exciting new chapter".

Liz Durst, in her new role as VP of QEC Community, will focus on the development of a software development kit aimed at quantum error correction. Her responsibilities will also include creating learning resources intended to equip the global community for engaging with logical qubits and systems that are error-corrected.

Expressing her enthusiasm about joining Riverlane, Liz stated, "I'm thrilled to join Riverlane, a company that's not only leading in quantum error correction but also deeply committed to building the strong, collaborative community needed to realise its full potential. I'm passionate about empowering people worldwide to use and advance quantum computing. Beyond providing tools, I'm motivated by the opportunity to enable education and inclusivity, building a welcoming future workforce ready to make meaningful contributions. Having seen firsthand how thriving open-source ecosystems can drive progress, I look forward to working with Riverlane to accelerate the path to useful fault tolerant quantum computers."

Riverlane's team comprises quantum researchers, hardware engineers, and chip designers with prior experience at major technology companies including Amazon, ARM, and Microsoft. This group claims to be the largest dedicated quantum error correction team globally and is focused on Riverlane's core product, Deltaflow.
