Rubrik & Rackspace team up for rapid post-cyber attack recovery

Today

Rubrik and Rackspace have entered into a strategic partnership to provide a fully managed isolated recovery service aimed at enhancing enterprise cyber resilience.

The new solution, Rackspace Cyber Recovery Cloud powered by Rubrik, is designed to help organisations respond more effectively to cyber attacks by enabling faster and more secure restoration of business operations compared to traditional backup and recovery methods.

Companies across non-regulated and highly regulated sectors such as banking, financial services, insurance, and healthcare are particularly targeted by this offering, due to the necessity for continuous operations and data integrity in these industries.

The partnership brings together Rubrik's data protection and cyber recovery software with Rackspace's experience in hybrid cloud environments and its global network of data centres. The intention behind the collaboration is to address urgent cyber recovery requirements while offering businesses a means to reduce operational risk.

According to recent data, organisations are facing increasingly frequent and sophisticated ransomware threats. Approximately 92 per cent of victims experience data encryption during such attacks, while 60 per cent suffer some form of data theft. The press release emphasises that legacy backup and recovery systems may take weeks or months to restore business operations, creating a need for more agile recovery options.

The Rackspace Cyber Recovery Cloud powered by Rubrik is presented as an isolated and either on-demand or dedicated managed platform. It gives enterprises access to an air-gapped environment in which they can recover critical workloads after a cyber incident. The offering seeks to reduce recovery time to hours rather than days or weeks.

Amar Maletira, Chief Executive Officer of Rackspace Technology, stated: "The launch of Rackspace Cyber Recovery Cloud powered by Rubrik comes at a critical time as ransomware incidents and compliance risks continue to escalate, while traditional backup and disaster recovery solutions have become insufficient, cost-prohibitive, and technically challenging."

He added, "This strategic partnership with Rubrik fills a recognised gap in the market and delivers something truly unique – the ability to recover data as well as rapidly restore operational capability in a clean, isolated environment in hours rather than days or weeks."

Bipul Sinha, Chief Executive Officer, Chairman, and Co-founder of Rubrik, commented: "As we chart the course for a more secure digital future, our collaboration with Rackspace Technology represents the paramount next step in our journey."

He further explained: "Unified as a cohesive force, we aim to provide customers with a robust and streamlined approach to cyber recovery, ensuring the safeguarding of vital data and uninterrupted business continuity."

Steven Dickens, Chief Executive Officer and Principal Analyst at HyperFRAME Research, remarked: "Rackspace Cyber Recovery Cloud delivers a robust, Rubrik-powered solution that ensures swift and secure workload restoration in the face of cyber attacks. Its on-demand and dedicated options provide cost-effective flexibility for organisations navigating rising ransomware threats and compliance demands."

The service allows customers to replicate validated backups so that in the event of a cyber attack, Rubrik's software can promptly identify clean data suitable for recovery. Rackspace's team then restores critical workloads within hours into an isolated recovery environment that is completely separated from standard production and disaster recovery environments. The entire process is managed by Rackspace staff.

To support deployment, the service begins with a Cyber Recovery Readiness Assessment, which identifies critical applications, maps dependencies, and prioritises workloads according to business impact. This results in a tailored action plan for recovery objectives.

Following this assessment, Cyber Recovery Cloud On-Boarding is carried out. This involves configuring and testing the isolated recovery environment, building recovery templates, running real-world test scenarios, and developing a business continuity plan aligned with the organisation's requirements.
