CIISec and The Cyber Scheme become first UK Cyber Security Charter bodies
Fri, 24th Nov 2023

The Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec) and The Cyber Scheme have become the first licensed bodies for Cyber Security Chartership in the United Kingdom.

This development comes after the UK Cyber Security Council obtained their Royal Charter in 2022, tasked with the significant objective of professionalising the cybersecurity industry. Both CIISec and The Cyber Scheme will adhere to this aim, contributing towards the further legitimisation and standardisation of the sector.

CIISec has the capacity to assess and propose the registration of individuals for Chartership in secure system architecture and design; cyber security governance and risk management; and cyber security audit and assurance, across Chartered, Principle and Associate levels.

The Cyber Scheme also has the ability to suggest the registration of individuals for security testing, and is presently evolving the Incident Response specialism for both Chartered and Principal levels.

This accomplishment was achieved following successful prototype initiatives run by both organizations. They worked closely with The Council and the industry to scrutinise and test technical elements, processes, and policies concerning the application and analysis of individuals at Chartered, Principal and Associate levels. This included examination, moderation, and appeals.

Charles White, The Cyber Scheme’s CEO, articulated his satisfaction with this result, stating, “We’re delighted to announce that we have become a Licenced Body for the UK Cyber Security Council."

"The professionalisation of the industry is well overdue, particularly as we look to counter the growing threat of cybercrime. A chartered organisation that reflects an individual’s experience, skills, and knowledge is vital for UK Plc growth and crucial for those employing such skills.” He also expressed pleasure in announcing CIISec's similar achievement.

CEO of CIISec, Amanda Finch, shared similar sentiments, commenting, “The Chartered Institute of Information Security is thrilled to be one of the first Licensed Bodies for the UK Cyber Security Council alongside The Cyber Scheme. We have already welcomed many newly-chartered individuals to the industry, and anticipate the chartering of many more in the future.”

Annmarie Dann, Director of Professional Standards for the UK Cyber Security Council, expressed contentment with the partnership and the progress made: “'We are delighted to be working in partnership with CIISec and The Cyber Scheme as we officially open for applications."

"This comes after our much-anticipated awards ceremony to celebrate the first 100 individuals who have obtained a Professional Registration Title through the Council. We are excited to see many more practitioners complete the process and flourish within the sector."

Both The Cyber Scheme and CIISec are presently accepting applications for Chartership, and will soon release application forms and supporting candidate guidance. This will enable experienced members of the cyber security industry to embark on their journey towards becoming Chartered Members.
