Gallagher Security has secured NPSA approval for its High Sec T30 Keypad Reader in the UK and Europe, adding another product to its list of systems recognised under UK government security standards.

The approval covers the UK National Protective Security Authority's Readers and Keypads standard and applies to the company's High Sec T30 Keypad Reader. Gallagher said the recognition expands its offering for customers operating in high-security settings across government, defence, critical national infrastructure and utilities.

The T30 is designed for sites that do not require a screen-based reader and supports card and PIN authentication. It also supports MIFARE DESFire EV1, EV2 and EV3 credential technologies, along with secure HBUS communications and FIPS 140-3 cryptographic secure storage.

The reader also works with older credential formats, including MIFARE Classic and MIFARE Plus. For physical resilience, it carries an IP68 environmental protection rating, an IK09 impact protection rating, integrated rear optical tamper detection, and a dedicated arming key with alarm zone status indication.

High-security focus

Jason Hunter, High Security Manager, Gallagher Security UKI, said the approval is relevant for organisations in regulated sectors.

"NPSA approval is widely recognised as a benchmark for security excellence, and the High Sec T30 strengthens Gallagher's ability to deliver trusted, end-to-end high-security solutions for government, defence, critical national infrastructure, and utilities across the UK and Europe," said Hunter.

The latest certification builds on earlier NPSA-related approvals for other Gallagher products. The High Security C7000 previously received recognition under the Automatic Access Control Systems and Cyber Assurance of Physical Security Systems frameworks.

Gallagher has also said it was the first manufacturer to gain both CAPSS 2021 and AACS 2022 approvals for its Command Centre and High Security Controller 6000. Those approvals helped establish its position in a market where buyers in sensitive sectors often require systems assessed against government-backed standards.

Sean Kelly, Product Manager, Gallagher Security, said the T30 is intended for environments where operators want a keypad reader without a display.

"Designed for sites where security cannot be compromised, the High Sec T30 has a nice form factor for situations that don't require a screen. The reader supports card and PIN authentication and has been engineered to deliver reliable performance in demanding environments," said Kelly.

He described the certification as part of a broader expansion of the company's high-security product range.

"Achieving NPSA approval for the High Sec T30 is an important milestone for Gallagher and further validates the strength of our high-security portfolio.

"Organisations responsible for critical infrastructure and highly sensitive sites need confidence that their security solutions have been independently assessed against stringent government standards. This approval provides that assurance, while offering end users a resilient, high-performance reader solution."

Market demand

The UK and European security markets have seen sustained demand for access control products that meet formal assurance requirements, particularly among public sector bodies and operators of nationally significant infrastructure. In those sectors, procurement processes often place weight on independent testing and recognised certification schemes to reduce operational and cyber risk.

For manufacturers, approvals under NPSA-related standards can help determine whether products are eligible for use in tightly controlled environments. Readers and keypads form part of the wider physical access chain, alongside controllers, software and credential management tools, making certification of individual hardware components important for customers seeking consistency across an entire system.

Gallagher said the T30 approval strengthens its broader suite of products aimed at those requirements. The company has a longstanding presence in electronic access control and perimeter security, with a customer base spanning commercial organisations, public institutions and critical sites.

Hunter said the business continues to see demand for independently assessed systems in sensitive environments.

"We have a proven track record protecting critical infrastructure, government facilities, and high-security sites globally, and Gallagher continues to invest in technologies that help organisations create secure, resilient environments while meeting evolving national security expectations," said Hunter.
