Sophos partners with Capsule to streamline cyber insurance for SMBs

Today

Sophos has established a partnership with Capsule to provide cyber insurance options for organisations utilising Sophos cybersecurity solutions through managed services providers.

The collaboration responds to growing demand for cyber insurance, particularly from small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that often face complex application processes and technical hurdles in securing suitable coverage. According to Sophos research, 99% of managed service providers (MSPs) have experienced an increase in client requests for assistance in meeting cyber insurance requirements.

The partnership enables MSPs to simplify support for their customers seeking cyber insurance, streamlining the application process and aligning insurance coverage more directly with the security controls already in place through Sophos solutions. Organisations using Sophos products and services, such as Sophos Managed Detection and Response (MDR), are eligible for discounts on cyber insurance premiums offered by Capsule.

The insurance process developed by Capsule provides customers with the ability to receive indicative pricing quotes within minutes, ensuring transparency at the earliest possible stage. The coverage includes financial protection in the event of data breaches, as well as crisis support and customer care services. Additionally, the use of Sophos incident response services is pre-approved in the insurance policy, allowing for swift recovery should an incident occur.

The collaboration seeks to address persistent challenges faced by organisations attempting to secure cyber insurance.

Liam Green, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer at Capsule, commented on the approach: "Cybersecurity and cyber insurance can no longer operate in silos - they must work together to create measurable risk reduction for businesses. This partnership is built on a simple idea: businesses that are proactively reducing their cyber risk exposure should be proactively rewarded by their insurer to reflect that effort. At Capsule, we've always believed insurance should feel like an enabler, not a barrier."

"That means making policies easier to access, more reflective of the protections already in place, and more dependable when it matters most. By combining Sophos' frontline threat intelligence our own broking expertise, we're creating a cyber insurance solution that's practical, joined-up, and built around what clients actually need - confidence, continuity, and a trusted team ready to help when something goes wrong."

Chris Bell, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Channels and Alliances at Sophos, reinforced this message, stating: "Sophos is already the cybersecurity provider of choice for MSPs across the UK, offering the most comprehensive portfolio of market-leading cybersecurity solutions on the market."

"With this partnership we are extending the benefits available to customers that use Sophos solutions through an MSP while also making it easier for MSPs to support their customers' cyber insurance needs. Automatic discounts for the use of Sophos cyber controls, including Sophos managed detection and response (MDR), reward proactive risk reduction while streamlined MSP-friendly support in the event of a cyber incident provide peace of mind while minimizing customer disruption."

Sophos' own research into cyber claim data has shown that organisations utilising managed detection and response technology claim, on average, 97.5% less than those relying solely on endpoint detection. Furthermore, nearly half (47%) of MDR users were able to fully recover from a cyberattack within a week, compared to just 18% of those using endpoint protection alone and 27% using endpoint detection and response or extended detection and response solutions.

Capsule, as Sophos' insurance partner in the UK, leverages its digital capabilities and broking experience to translate cyber controls into practical insurance solutions, aiming to raise awareness of cyber risks and close the insurance coverage gap for businesses.

The new offering allows MSPs to play a more active role in supporting their clients' cyber risk management by linking insurance availability and pricing directly to the security measures adopted within their environments. This approach is designed to reward proactive cyber risk mitigation while helping organisations better manage the operational response to security incidents.
