Sytech appoints Garry Dixon as Non-Executive Director

SYTECH has appointed Garry Dixon as a non-executive director, adding a former police and forensic science leader to the consultancy's board.

Dixon brings more than 40 years of experience in criminal justice and forensic science, including three decades with Northumbria Police. During that time, he led complex crime investigations and held senior responsibility for scene investigations and cold case review.

He later moved into national policing and forensic roles, including work on the National Police Chiefs' Council's Transforming Forensics programme and with the Forensic Capability Network. There, he was involved in work affecting police forensic services across England and Wales.

At SYTECH, Dixon is expected to provide strategic oversight as the business develops its digital forensics and cyber security work. His experience is expected to help align services with changing demand as organisations manage growing volumes of data.

The appointment brings direct experience of policing reform and forensic service delivery to a consultancy that works across digital investigations, cyber security, training and compliance support. SYTECH traces its origins to 1978 and operates from offices in the UK.

Sector background

Digital evidence has become a larger part of criminal and corporate investigations as mobile devices, online communications and cloud services generate more material for examination. This has increased pressure on law enforcement bodies, government agencies and private organisations to manage forensic workloads, maintain standards and protect data integrity.

Dixon's career spans both operational casework and system-level oversight. His involvement in the Transforming Forensics programme linked him to a national effort to develop more consistent forensic practices across police forces, while his work with the Forensic Capability Network connected him to broader efforts to support local and regional forensic services.

SYTECH's wider business includes forensic investigation work such as digital device analysis, telecommunications, data recovery and incident response. It also provides cyber security services including cyber infrastructure consultancy, Cyber Essentials Plus certification, penetration testing and vulnerability assessments.

SYTECH also advises organisations on quality and compliance standards, including support around ISO 17025. That work has extended into sectors such as water treatment, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing.
