Approov opens new Edinburgh HQ to drive global growth
Mobile security firm Approov has opened a new headquarters in Edinburgh's New Town after a year of rapid growth, fresh investment and industry recognition.
The company, which focuses on mobile app and API security, has chosen one of the Scottish capital's most prominent districts as it scales its operations. The move follows an investment round led by Maven Capital Partners and comes in the same year Approov won the "Cyber Innovation of the Year" award at the Scottish Cyber Awards.
Approov describes the relocation as a response to strong growth through 2025. The new site will host expanded teams across engineering, product, sales and customer success.
"Establishing our headquarters in one of Edinburgh's most historic districts underscores our long-term commitment to this region as a premier technology hub," said Ted Miracco, Chief Executive Officer, Approov. "This location offers the stability and environment necessary to attract top-tier talent and support our trajectory as we secure mobile applications for a global market."
The company has not disclosed the size of the investment in the new headquarters. It said the facility gives it additional space for staff and room to develop its technology.
Scottish roots
Approov serves customers in multiple regions but continues to position itself as a Scottish-founded security business. The firm said the move represents a reinvestment in the local technology ecosystem and a decision to anchor growth in Edinburgh.
Its recent win at the Scottish Cyber Awards has raised its profile in the national cyber sector. The "Cyber Innovation of the Year" accolade highlighted its work in securing mobile applications and their back-end interfaces.
Approov plans to use the New Town headquarters as a focal point for hiring and collaboration in the city. The company said it aims to draw on what it describes as Edinburgh's strong base of engineering and cybersecurity expertise.
"Edinburgh is a fantastic place to base a software business. It's home to a culture of innovation, and our new office represents our long-term commitment to growing our presence in Scotland while serving the wider European market," added Iain McCready, Chief Operating Officer at Approov.
Growth and partnerships
The company said a combination of new funding, strategic partnerships and a larger global customer base has driven its expansion. Approov works with organisations in sectors such as finance, retail, healthcare and connected vehicles.
Its technology focuses on securing the connection between mobile applications and APIs. The product verifies that API requests originate from genuine, untampered mobile apps. The company said this reduces automated attacks such as those from bots, scripts and cloned apps.
Approov reports that customers have seen a reduction in API attacks of more than 95% when they use its software. It positions this as a contribution to a safer digital environment for mobile users and service providers.
The firm's decision to expand in Edinburgh comes as the city promotes itself as a centre for data, software and security companies. Local universities and research institutions have produced a steady pipeline of computer science and cybersecurity graduates, which companies in the sector have targeted.
New Town base
New Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Edinburgh's most recognisable districts. It houses professional services firms, financial institutions and a growing number of technology-related businesses.
The new headquarters place Approov within that cluster. The company said it expects the location to support closer ties with regional partners in the cybersecurity community.
Approov indicated that it will use the expanded office as a base for collaboration with existing and new partners. It plans to develop joint initiatives with other security and technology firms, as well as with customers that require advanced protection for mobile channels.
Plans for 2026
Looking ahead, Approov said it will use the additional space to focus on innovation in mobile app and API security. It plans to expand its global partner ecosystem and develop its threat-intelligence work from the Edinburgh base.
The company expects further hiring across technical and commercial roles as it enters 2026 and seeks broader adoption of its security products among international customers.
