Aston University partners with BIT Group to revolutionise cybersecurity
Aston University has launched a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with BIT Group, a IT company based in the South West, to transform the firm into a global leader in cyber security education, training and technology solutions. The collaboration aims to enhance BIT Group's management of outsourced cyber security services for its customers.
The KTP, a three-way collaboration between a business, academia, and a highly qualified researcher, is a UK-wide programme aimed at enhancing competitiveness and productivity of businesses through optimal use of knowledge, technology, and skills. Aston University has a reputable record in providing KTPs, with 80% of its completed projects being rated as very good or outstanding by Innovate UK, the national body.
The partnership with BIT Group is intended to open new income streams by expanding the range of cyber security services, training and apprenticeships and technology platforms offered mainly through its Security Operation Centre. The initiative entails reforming BIT Group operations and instilling skills to ensure lasting growth and profitability.
The project's leadership comprises Professor Vladlena Benson - an industry-recognised expert in cybersecurity risk management, the director of Aston University's Cyber Security Innovation (CSI) Research Centre and a member of the UK's Cyber Security Council. She is joined by Dr Anitha Chinnaswamy, the CSI Centre's deputy director and a senior lecturer in cyber security management.
The industry partnership will strengthen the academic understanding of cyber security management by providing practical and applied learning. Aston University's MBA students, who choose cyber security as a pathway, will utilise the BIT Group management KTP as a hands-on case study, equipping them with practical, real-world insights that will supplement their learning and future career preparation.
BIT Group CEO, Michael Dieroff, expressed his pride in the collaboration with Aston University. "This collaboration enriches our company with cutting-edge business insights and marks a significant milestone in our journey towards industry leadership. Our innovative spirit, coupled with Aston University's advanced research capabilities, is redefining our market approach and setting new standards in cyber security solutions," said Dieroff.
Dr Anitha Chinnaswamy stated: "This management KTP allows us to leverage Aston University's critical mass of expertise in cyber security management from our industry-aligned research and consultancy to enhance BIT Group's services, business delivery model and go-to-market strategies."
Kumara Swamy, KTP associate and Admirer in Aston MBA said, "Having worked across a range of large businesses, and a recent triumphant MBA completion from Aston University, this management KTP grants me the opportunity to exercise my skills, industry knowledge, and creativity to create and offer solutions that will drive transformation in a small business."
