Aston University has launched a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with BIT Group, a IT company based in the South West, to transform the firm into a global leader in cyber security education, training and technology solutions. The collaboration aims to enhance BIT Group's management of outsourced cyber security services for its customers.

The KTP, a three-way collaboration between a business, academia, and a highly qualified researcher, is a UK-wide programme aimed at enhancing competitiveness and productivity of businesses through optimal use of knowledge, technology, and skills. Aston University has a reputable record in providing KTPs, with 80% of its completed projects being rated as very good or outstanding by Innovate UK, the national body.

The partnership with BIT Group is intended to open new income streams by expanding the range of cyber security services, training and apprenticeships and technology platforms offered mainly through its Security Operation Centre. The initiative entails reforming BIT Group operations and instilling skills to ensure lasting growth and profitability.

The project's leadership comprises Professor Vladlena Benson - an industry-recognised expert in cybersecurity risk management, the director of Aston University's Cyber Security Innovation (CSI) Research Centre and a member of the UK's Cyber Security Council. She is joined by Dr Anitha Chinnaswamy, the CSI Centre’s deputy director and a senior lecturer in cyber security management.

The industry partnership will strengthen the academic understanding of cyber security management by providing practical and applied learning. Aston University’s MBA students, who choose cyber security as a pathway, will utilise the BIT Group management KTP as a hands-on case study, equipping them with practical, real-world insights that will supplement their learning and future career preparation.
