UK IT leaders put AI first despite budget & security concerns
UK IT leaders are increasingly prioritising artificial intelligence integration amid mounting pressure to manage costs and address security risks, according to new sector data.
AI at the forefront
The latest findings indicate that 37% of UK IT leaders now rank AI integration as their foremost priority over the coming year. This marks a shift in focus from cost optimisation and traditional risk management, which were named by 26% and 25% of respondents respectively. The data reflects a response to heightened government interest and investment in AI development.
Unresolved issues
Despite the urgent emphasis on AI, 30% of technology chiefs acknowledge that full integration remains their chief unresolved challenge. This highlights an ongoing gap between strategic ambitions and operational readiness. While organisations are keen to realise business value from AI, the complexities involved present ongoing barriers.
Active engagement
AI is already making its way into UK businesses, with 98% of surveyed leaders reporting that employees are developing ways to embed the technology into products and services. Furthermore, 95% say they are actively seeking additional opportunities to integrate AI across their technology stacks. These findings suggest widespread buy-in and an organisational push to explore the potential advantages of AI adoption.
Budget pressures
UK IT leaders face tight financial conditions while taking on large-scale AI projects. Reducing IT expenditure was the second most prominent goal among respondents, cited by more than a quarter. Cost management comes as IT teams are asked to innovate rapidly under resource constraints, making the business case for each AI investment more critical.
Security concerns
Security remains a prominent issue for UK organisations pursuing AI adoption. A quarter of respondents identify reducing security risks as a top priority. The addition of AI technologies creates new areas of vulnerability, requiring greater diligence around compliance and resilience in digital environments.
Business impact
As the race to leverage AI accelerates, one in three respondents say that successfully resolving the challenge of AI integration would have the greatest positive impact on their organisation. There is widespread consensus that harnessing AI for measurable business value is a key differentiator moving forward.
"AI has become the defining priority for UK IT leaders. However, the challenge lies in doing it sustainably. IT teams are being asked to innovate faster, cut costs and strengthen security - all at the same time. That's where visibility and control become critical. Organisations that can see, understand and optimise their technology footprint will be the ones that turn AI from hype into real business advantage," said Marlon Oliver, Senior Vice President, EMEA, Flexera.
